breast problems

other than lumps anybody know what other signs of breast problems?
thanks, didn’t know about the moving lumps
Realize also, you can have problems and no symptoms. I had a lumpectomy in August and begin radiation treatment on Monday, for DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ)…so small I couldn’t have felt it during a self exam, but my yearly mammogram in June picked it up.
If you are 40 or have breast cancer in your family, tell your doctor and request a mammogram. My baseline was done when I was 37 or 38…I’m 44 now.

Breast Men -
$4.99 This docudrama recaps the history of silicone breast implants, beginning in 1962 when idealistic Houston medical resident Kevin Saunders (David Schwimmer) gets an idea after seeing how women pad their bras. After he shares his notion with cosmetic pro Dr. William Larson (Chris Cooper), the two create a prosthetic breast from Dow-Corning's silicone gel. Approaching women on the street fails to bring volunteers, but a classified newspaper ad does the trick. As breast sizes increase, so do the doctors' bank accounts. However, physical problems emerge, followed by lawsuits, and the high life soon turns sour and grim. Filmed in LA, and Texas (Galveston, Houston), this TV movie premiered December 13, 1997 on HBO. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide |

Challenges in Breast Cancer
$5.97 Each year approximately one million women are diagnosed with breast cancer. This disease is the focus of an enormous amount of research interest and keeping up-to-date and informed of these latest developments is an almost impossible task. Clinicians need a book where they can read a distilled account of what is really topical in the subject. For the most part, this should reflect their primary interest in treating patients, It is also important that they are kept up-to-speed on the basic science, particularly in terms of causal mechanisms and the application of this knowledge into better prevention programes.pbrChallenges in Breast Cancer meets this need by bringing together a series of essays on hot topics in breast cancer in which the authors have been challenged to present a lively and opinionated debate on present knowledge and future developments. These chapters are, therefore, quite unlike those in standard texts. An additional feature is that the authors have star-rated their references to guide the reader towards the best source of further reading.pbrChallenges in Breast Cancer is a highly topical book designed for the specialist in search of the latest thinking on the many controversial areas that sorround breast cancer.bBiology/b.p.pWhen does distant metastasis occur in breast cancer?.p Do breast cancer patients have a pre-existing hormonal susceptibility?.p.pIs alcohol a cause of breast cancer?.p.pBreast cancer and animal consumption: causative or associated?.p.pBreast cancer: who is cured?.p.pWhat can we do fo rwomen with breast cancer susceptibility gene mutations?.p.pbDiagnosis/b.p.pShould we screen women aged 50? Adjuvant Therapy of Breast Cancer
$404 The results of randomized trials evaluating the use of early or adjuvant systemic treatment for patients with resectable breast cancer provide an eloquent rebuttal to those who would argue that little progress has been made in the treatment of cancer. Few subjects have been so systematically studied in the history of medicine, and it seems fair to conclude that the value of adjuvant systemic therapy in prolonging the lives of women with breast cancer is more firmly supported by empirical evidence than even the more conventional or primary treatments using various combinations of surgery and radiotherapy. This book authoritatively reviews the rationale for, results of, special problems, and future directions of adjuvant therapy of breast cancer. It also includes an appendix from the Early Breast Cancer Trialists' Collaborative Group (Oxford, U.K.) which lists all of the adjuvant trials which have been closed, as well as the active studies now ongoing. |

Safety of Silicone Breast Implants
$96.95 The Dow Corning case raised serious questions about the safety of silicone breast implants and about larger issues of medical device testing and patient education.pSafety of Silicone Breast Implants presents a well-documented, thoughtful exploration of the safety of these devices, drawing conclusions from the available research base and suggesting further questions to be answered. This book also examines the sensitive issues surrounding women's decisions about implants. In reaching conclusions, the committee reviews:br-- The history of the silicone breast implant and the development of its chemistry.br-- The wide variety of U.S.-made implants and their regulation by the Food and Drug Administration.br-- Frequency and consequences of local complications from implants.br-- The evidence for and against links between implants and autoimmune disorders, connective tissue disease, neurological problems, silicone in breast milk, or a proposed new syndrome.br-- Evidence that implants may be associated with lower frequencies of breast cancer.pSafety of Silicone Breast Implants provides a comprehensive, well-organized review of the science behind one of the most significant medical controversies of our time. |

Screening for Breast Cancer
$41.29 Screening for common diseases is seen by some as a vital intervention in major health problems and by others as a costly exercise in public relations. Breast cancer incidence is increasing and screening programs have been established in many countries. However, questions remain as to their efficacy, given the financial costs to health services, and the emotional and in some cases physical costs to well women who are screened. Screening for Breast Cancer begins by setting out the principles of effective screening programs, and reviews variations in the incidence of breast cancer in different countries and age-groups to shed light on the major risk factors. This leads to a study of the normal and abnormal cell biology on which breast cancer diagnosis depends.brThe most common method of screening for early breast cancer worldwide is mammography using X-ray images. Screening for Breast Cancer is supported by a fully interactive DVD, developed in collaboration with a hospital breast screening service. The book and an interactive multimedia sequence explain the physical basis of X-rays, how and why they are used in mammography, and why the breast has to be compressed between two plates for a mammogram. The mammography procedure, how the mammography machine works and how mammograms are interpreted, are explained in videos, concluding with a visit to the follow-up clinic and pathology laboratory where breast biopsy samples are processed and evaluated microscopically.brSome other imaging methods that may become more important in the future are also introduced and the concepts of sensitivity and specificity are explained. The book closes by exploring the benefits, risks and costs of screening for breast cancer, so that the reader can weigh up the pros and cons, and see how the general principles might apply to other screening programmes.brThe Online Resource Center features:brFor lecturers who are registered adopters of the book:brFigures from the book in electronic@D¥¸Që…ÿ¾Úx |

Surgery of the Breast: Principles and Art
$385.42 Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Boyd R. BurkhPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Boyd R. Burkhardt, MD -- .,.Dr. Spear and his associate editors have again compiled an invaluable, definitive, and virtually encyclopedic scientific reference to the entire spectrum of breast surgery. With five editors and 123 individual contributing experts from nine different countries, one must admire not only the knowledge and effort but also the interpersonal and organizational skills required to assemble and coordinate such an international cast of authors. The product is a beautiful two-volume set delivered in a large textbook-style format of more than 1500 pages. Throughout the text, one appreciates the high quality of the abundant illustrations and color photographs and the use of pastel shading to highlight the chapter headings and the subunit headings within each chapter. My favorite feature, however, is the short, italicized, independent commentary inserted at the end of each chapter in which a separate authority offers orientation, support, and sometimes even caution about the chapter's content.... Of all the valuable content, I must confess that my personal (and emotional) favorite was chapter 102, Managing Complications of Augmentation Mammaplasty, by Neal Handel...pExpanded to two volumes and thoroughly updated, this profusely illustrated text/atlas is the most comprehensive how-to reference on surgery of the breast. More than 90 of the world's leading surgeons describe and demonstrate the most advanced and successful techniques for all types of breast surgery--oncologic management of breast disease, breast reconstruction, reduction mammoplasty and mastopexy, and augmentation mammoplasty. The text is illustrated throughout with over 3,700 drawings and full-color preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative photographs.pEmphasis is on how to solve surgical problems and how to perform various techniques. Atlas of Procedures in Breast Cancer Surgery
$288.07 This book is of extremely high quality and will be a valuable and timely addition to the library of clinicians and allied healthcare professionals caring for patients with breast cancer. -Doody's ReviewsA practical guide to the procedures involved in surgery for breast cancer, Atlas of Procedures in Breast Cancer Surgery is a collaboration of practitioners from one of the world's leading cancer centers. Designed to give readers a detailed overview, each of the requisite procedures is comprehensively profiled, including mastectomy, lumpectomy, quadrantectomy, and other treatments. The authors discuss the latest developments in sentinel lymph node biopsy, refinements to the classic methods of excision and of reconstruction, and surgical issues in the male breast cancer patient.brEach procedure is fully illustrated, step-by-step and in color. The accompanying DVD contains live surgical footage with spoken commentary. You can review the procedures in full-color photographs and then view six selected procedures on video. The combination of photographs, written text, surgical footage, and spoken commentary is one of the most realistic approaches to understanding complex surgical procedures available without actually scrubbing into the case. By creating the foundation of this text exclusively from color images of actual surgical procedures, the authors offer a vantage point similar to that of the operating surgeon.brThe atlas provides valuable information with coverage ranging from the most basic precepts involved in planning and executing a surgical breast biopsy to sophisticated techniques of breast-conservation therapy, regional node biopsy, and breast reconstruction. The chapter authors have, in the last decade, collectively treated more than 10,000 patients with primary operable breast cancer. They present a unique perspective on approaches to the problems surrounding the surgical treatment of the breast cancer patient-approaches that have been refined many times@r¸Që…ÿ¾Úx |

Green Breast of the New World
$24.45 In searching American literary landscapes for what they can reveal about our attitudes toward nature and gender, The Green Breast of the New World considers symbolic landscapes in twentieth-century American fiction, the characters who inhabit those landscapes, and the gendered traditions that can influence the figuration of both of these fictional elements. In this century, says Louise H. Westling, American literary responses to landscape and nature have been characterized by a puzzling mix of eroticism and misogyny, celebration and mourning, and reverence and disregard. Focusing on problems of gender conflict and imperialist nostalgia, The Green Breast of the New World addresses this ambivalence. Westling begins with a deep history of literary landscapes, looking back to the archaic Mediterranean/Mesopotamian traditions that frame European and American symbolic figurations of humans in the land. Drawing on sources as ancient as the Sumerian Hymns to Innana and the Epic of Gilgamesh, she reveals a tradition of male heroic identity grounded in an antagonistic attitude toward the feminized earth and nature. This identity recently has been used to mask a violent destruction of wilderness and indigenous peoples in the fictions of progress that have shaped our culture. Examining the midwestern landscapes of Willa Cather's Jim Burden and Ernest Hemingway's Nick Adams, and the Mississippi Delta of William Faulkner's Thomas Sutpen and Isaac McCaslin and Eudora Welty's plantation families and small-town dwellers, Westling shows that these characters all participate in a cultural habit of gendering the landscape as female and then excusing their mistreatment of it by retreating into a nostalgiathat erases their real motives, displaces responsibility, and takes refuge in attitudes of self-pitying adoration. In searching American literary landscapes for what they can reveal about our attitudes toward nature and gender, The Green Breast of the New World considers symbolic lands@8s33333ÿ¾Úx |

Metu And Lee Learn About Breast Cancer
$1.78 DIVYou may be thinking, Why do children need to learn about breast cancer? Well, that's because this disease can strike women at any age, including in their forties, thirties, and even twenties. Women in this age group have young children whose lives are strongly impacted by this disease. Furthermore, studies show that kids may actually suffer clinical depression and other emotional problems when a mother is diagnosed with breast cancer. Recent online and journal articles show that parents with cancer need to figure out how to talk to their children about the disease, and that behavioral and emotional problems occur in families of women with breast cancer. This impact can be minimized with proper education for children. Metu and Lee Learn About Breast Cancer is a book for children five and up that will help them understand this disease and how it may affect the adult women in their lives./DIVDIVDr. Shenin Sachedina is a board-certified general surgeon, specializing in breast cancer, and is the founder of the Central Florida Breast Center in Winter Park, Florida. It is her sincere hope that the Metu and Lee series of books will help children who are dealing with different medical issues gain knowledge, wisdom, and hope./DIV |

Adjuvant Therapy of Breast Cancer (Cancer Treatment and Research)
$418.98 The results of randomized trials evaluating the use of early or adjuvant systemic treatment for patients with resectable breast cancer provide an eloquent rebuttal to those who would argue that little progress has been made in the treatment of cancer. |
